President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is deploying border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota as federal immigration enforcement efforts intensify in the Twin Cities.

According to Trump, Homan will take a direct leadership role in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Minneapolis and St. Paul, reporting “directly” to the president as the administration works to restore order and enforce federal immigration laws.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, emphasizing Homan’s experience and reputation for firm but fair enforcement:

“I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight. He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The move comes as the Trump administration faces mounting confrontation from left-wing activist networks attempting to obstruct ICE arrests—particularly those targeting individuals the White House describes as criminal illegal aliens.

Trump Links Street Protests to Major Welfare Fraud Investigation

In his post, Trump also connected the unrest to a separate but ongoing investigation into what he described as large-scale abuse of taxpayer-funded welfare programs in Minnesota—an issue that has fueled national concerns about government oversight and runaway spending.

“Separately, a major investigation is going on with respect to the massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud that has taken place in Minnesota, and is at least partially responsible for the violent organized protests going on in the streets,” he continued.

Republican lawmakers have repeatedly argued that weak oversight, bloated bureaucracy, and lax enforcement invite fraud and abuse—especially in programs funded by federal and state taxpayers. Minnesota has already faced high-profile fraud cases in recent years, increasing scrutiny over whether officials acted quickly enough to stop misconduct and recover stolen funds.

Homan’s Role: On-the-Ground Leadership and Coordination

Homan’s deployment appears designed to reinforce control over enforcement operations and improve coordination between agencies as protests escalate.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital that Homan will oversee enforcement work and coordinate related investigations:

“Tom Homan will be managing ICE operations on the ground in Minnesota and coordinating with others on the ongoing fraud investigations,” Leavitt told Fox News Digital.

Leavitt did not specify whether the move signals dissatisfaction with existing ICE leadership in Minnesota.

Administration Blames “Organized Agitators” for Anti-ICE Harassment

The Trump administration has accused activist groups of trying to intimidate federal officers and disrupt lawful enforcement operations—a claim consistent with broader concerns on the right that progressive officials and organizations are enabling disorder while undermining border enforcement.

Tensions have been heightened amid recent confrontations involving federal agents and anti-ICE demonstrators, including the deaths of two protesters this month, Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.
