Trump Responds To Biden Suing DOJ Over Classified Docs

Former President Donald Trump torched Joe Biden on Tuesday night after Biden filed a lawsuit against Trump’s Justice Department in an attempt to block the release of explosive audio recordings tied to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s classified documents investigation.

“A Crooked Politician!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social while reposting coverage of Biden’s lawsuit.

The lawsuit seeks to stop Trump’s DOJ from releasing audio recordings and transcripts from Biden’s 2016 and 2017 interviews with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer — recordings obtained during Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents.

The legal fight erupted after Trump’s Justice Department informed Biden’s legal team earlier this month that it planned to release the materials on June 15 in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project.

Biden’s attorneys argue the recordings contain private conversations conducted in Biden’s home and claim their release would amount to “an unwarranted invasion” of his privacy.

“Every American, including a sitting or former Vice President, has a right to privacy in the personal conversations he has within his own home,” Biden’s lawyers wrote in the filing.

But conservatives argue the recordings are firmly in the public interest because they could shed new light on Biden’s mental fitness while in office.

“The tapes will further prove the massive lie regarding Biden’s fitness for office and the fact Biden revealed classified information,” Oversight Project President Mike Howell told Politico.

The recordings stem from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s now-infamous investigation into Biden’s improper retention of classified documents from his time as senator and vice president. Hur ultimately declined to recommend criminal charges, but his report ignited political firestorms after describing Biden as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

That characterization became a major flashpoint during the 2024 election cycle as concerns mounted over Biden’s age and cognitive decline.

Hur’s report also concluded that Biden had read classified information aloud to Zwonitzer during the memoir interviews.

Biden’s team had previously fought efforts to release the materials while he was still in office. Now, with Trump back in the White House, the Justice Department has reversed course and plans to comply with the FOIA request unless the courts intervene.

The lawsuit marks the latest escalation in the bitter political and legal feud between Trump and Biden — and sets up another high-profile clash over transparency, executive power, and the fallout from the classified documents investigations that engulfed both presidents.
