President Donald Trump said America’s 250th birthday celebration in Washington would deliver the largest fireworks show in history. Now it has the record to match.
Guinness World Records has officially recognized the July 4 spectacle over the National Mall as the largest firework display ever staged. The organization certified a total of 840,537 fireworks—an exact count that surpassed the “more than 840,000” effects initially announced by organizers.
The record was awarded to Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico for the display organized by Event Strategies Inc. in Washington, D.C.
The show served as the grand finale of Trump’s Salute to America celebration marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Fireworks launched from multiple locations around the National Mall, West Potomac Park and the Potomac River, creating a sweeping display framed by the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, U.S. Capitol and the capital’s war memorials.
Freedom 250, the public-private partnership coordinating national and local anniversary events with the White House and federal agencies, designed the program and creative direction. Pyrotecnico served as the official pyrotechnics provider.
“Every one of those 840,000 effects was a tribute to the generations who came before us,” Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said in a statement.
Alvarez said the record reflected the scale of national pride surrounding the milestone and pointed toward what organizers described as the country’s next chapter.
The fireworks capped a night of flyovers, patriotic performances and tributes to U.S. service members and other American heroes. The display was visible across Washington and the surrounding region, giving the administration a defining visual moment from the anniversary celebration.
The Guinness certification also gives Trump a concrete result from one of his most prominent promises for the semiquincentennial. What began as a White House pledge to stage a historic Independence Day spectacle is now an officially verified world record.
