Nicki Minaj’s latest trip aboard Air Force One came with an unexpected audition: defending President Donald Trump as his next White House press secretary.
White House communications director Steven Cheung jokingly floated the rapper for the position Sunday, October 25, after filming a mock interview during a flight to Michigan, where she accompanied Trump for a campaign rally. The official White House account joined the exchange with an eyes emoji, The Daily Wire reported.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Cheung wrote in his post on X, tagging Minaj. The exchange was playful; it did not announce an appointment.
An Interview At Cruising Altitude
Seated across from Cheung at a table inside the presidential aircraft, Minaj fielded questions about Trump’s economic leadership, campaign schedule and polling.
Asked about the economy, she credited Trump’s business experience and argued that his handling of his own financial setbacks had prepared him to lead the country, according to The Daily Wire’s account of the video.
Cheung then turned to the president’s demanding travel schedule ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, asking whether anyone worked harder on the campaign trail.
“He outworks people who are half his age,” Minaj said, according to Just the News.
She argued that Trump could spend more time relaxing but had instead chosen to campaign for fellow Republicans. During the final portion of the interview, she encouraged supporters to remain motivated rather than become discouraged by polling, Mediaite reported.
Minaj subsequently shared Cheung’s video with an American flag and a smiling, sweat-drop emoji, according to additional coverage published by AOL.
A Joke Amid Press Office Turnover
The lighthearted exchange followed another change at the White House briefing-room podium.
Katie Zacharia left the press secretary position after just five days in the role, having succeeded Karoline Leavitt. The Daily Wire reported that Zacharia’s only briefing included questions from three reporters.
For Minaj, the flight continued a series of public appearances alongside Trump. She previously joined him at the Treasury Department’s Trump Accounts Summit in January, where she praised the initiative’s potential to help children without wealthy families, according to The Daily Wire.
Her Michigan visit also extended beyond the aircraft. At the rally in Port Huron, Minaj urged support for Republican candidates and led chants for Senate candidate Mike Rogers and gubernatorial candidate John James
