On Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with Congressional Republicans ahead of a visit to the White House to meet with President Joe Biden.

Trump’s visit to Capitol Hill comes as Republicans are holding internal voters for leadership candidates

President-elect Donald Trump appeared to back Mike Johnson’s speakership bid during his visit with the House GOP Wednesday morning, hours ahead of an internal party leadership vote, according to four people in the room.

“He said, ‘I am with him all the way,’” according to two people.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) became the latest prominent conservative to back Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in his bid to lead Senate Republicans.

In a social media post on X, Cruz wrote, “In 2022, I helped lead the charge for Rick against McConnell & I’m proud to stand with him again.”

“For 12 yrs, I’ve been unequivocal that we need to change GOP Leadership—and now we finally will,” Cruz, who just won a third Senate term and has been a longtime critic of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, added.

At least half a dozen Republicans have come out publicly in favor of Scott over his GOP rivals — Sens. John Thune (S.D.) and John Cornyn (Texas).
