Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, on Wednesday filed articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump and invoked a procedural maneuver that will require the House of Representatives to vote on the measure this week.

Green designated his impeachment resolution as privileged, a step that forces the House to take action within two legislative days. Although he has introduced articles of impeachment against Trump at least five times this year, this is the first time in the current Congress that he has compelled a vote.

In the filing, Green accuses Trump of “calling for the execution of six Democratic lawmakers” and of issuing threats of violence against members of the judiciary. The allegation stems from Trump’s response to Democratic lawmakers who had urged military personnel to “refuse illegal orders.”

“President Trump is an abuser of presidential power who, if left in office, will continue to promote violence, engender invidious hate, undermine our democracy, and dissolve our Republic,” Green said in a statement.

Background on Green’s Previous Attempts

Green has repeatedly attempted to impeach Trump throughout the president’s second administration, but none of his efforts have gained traction among Democrats. Earlier this year, the House rejected several of his resolutions, including a June attempt centered on Trump’s decision to order airstrikes on Iran. Democratic leaders have consistently argued that while they disagree with Trump’s conduct, Green’s resolutions lacked the investigative foundation or caucus consensus needed to advance impeachment proceedings. As a result, each prior attempt was tabled or voted down, often by wide margins within the Democratic caucus.

Additional Impeachment Efforts Against Administration Officials

Trump is not the only administration official facing impeachment resolutions this week. House Democrats have also introduced articles targeting Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and War Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., formally announced articles of impeachment against Kennedy on Wednesday, arguing he has failed in his duties as HHS Secretary. Stevens had previously pledged in September to pursue the action.

Meanwhile, Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., filed articles against Hegseth, citing reports that he issued orders to “kill everybody” aboard a small vessel allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
