Newly surfaced video reportedly shows Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) being transported by ambulance following a medical emergency at his Washington, D.C., home last month, offering the first public glimpse of the incident that led to his hospitalization.
The footage, first reported by CNN, appears to show emergency responders wheeling an individual on a stretcher from McConnell’s residence before loading the person into an ambulance. The senator’s face is not visible in the video, and CNN reported it could not independently confirm the identity of the person shown. However, the footage aligns with the timing of McConnell’s June 14 hospitalization.

Neighbor Describes Large Emergency Response
According to CNN, a neighbor said they stepped outside around 8:30 a.m. on June 14 to find multiple emergency vehicles outside McConnell’s home, including two ambulances, a fire truck, and U.S. Capitol Police officers who had blocked off the street.
Roughly 30 minutes later, the neighbor said they watched first responders remove a person from the residence on a stretcher.
Because the video was recorded from a distance, the person’s face cannot be seen. The footage reportedly shows the individual being covered with an orange blanket after being loaded into the ambulance, while their feet remained visible.
The neighbor said they asked officers what had happened and were told there had been a “medical emergency.”
When they asked whether McConnell was the patient, the officers reportedly replied only that they “would block the street for anybody.”
Although the neighbor said they never personally saw the patient’s face, they said another eyewitness later told them it was McConnell and claimed he was not wearing an oxygen mask.
The neighbor also recalled being struck by the patient’s motionless feet.
“He’s in a stretcher, and he’s in some sort like orange foam-looking blanket type thing,” the neighbor said, adding that the feet appeared to be “not moving.”
Questions Surround Hospitalization
McConnell’s hospitalization has generated significant speculation because relatively few details have been released publicly.
At the time, a spokesperson for the Kentucky senator said only that McConnell had been “admitted to the hospital this morning” and was “receiving excellent care.”
Earlier reporting by independent journalist Desirée Townsend included emergency dispatch audio indicating first responders were sent to McConnell’s residence for an “unconscious” person reportedly experiencing “cardiac arrest.” During the recording, someone can also be heard saying, “CPR in progress.”
Those dispatch reports have not been publicly confirmed by McConnell’s office.
Conflicting Impressions
Despite the seriousness suggested by the dispatch audio, the neighbor told CNN that the emergency response itself did not appear hurried.
“In a situation where perhaps time is of the essence, there seems to be a little bit more urgency, but there was no urgency here,” the neighbor said.
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and other Republican lawmakers have said they have recently spoken with McConnell.
CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings also said he spoke with the senator by phone this week.
According to Jennings, McConnell’s “voice sounded strong,” and he appeared to be recovering.
“He was feeling OK—obviously well enough to call me on the phone,” Jennings said during an appearance on CNN.
The longtime Kentucky senator has experienced several highly publicized health incidents in recent years, including falls and episodes in which he briefly froze. His latest hospitalization has renewed questions about his health, although few official details have been released about the cause of the June medical emergency.
