The U.S. Secret Service is investigating a disturbing video aired by Iranian state television that appears to threaten the life of President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” agency spokesperson Nate Herring told ABC News.
“Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence,” Herring added.
The nearly three-minute video reportedly opens with a graphic asking where Barron Trump should be killed and identifies locations the 20-year-old is publicly known to visit, including Trump Tower in New York City. Its narrator also appears to suggest that a $10 million reward could be offered, according to CNN.
The video was broadcast by IRIB, Iran’s state broadcaster, whose leader is appointed directly by the country’s supreme leader. While Iranian media have previously threatened President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, CNN reported that this appears to be the first time Barron has been publicly singled out.
The threat comes amid longstanding security concerns surrounding Iran and the Trump family. Tehran has repeatedly vowed revenge since Trump ordered the 2020 strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani.
Those threats have not been limited to propaganda. In 2024, the Justice Department charged an alleged Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps asset who authorities said had been tasked with developing a plan to assassinate Trump.
Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn acknowledged the persistent danger last month.
“I don’t think it’s any secret, it’s been in the media, that Iran has publicly said they want to kill President Trump,” Quinn said.
The White House has not yet publicly commented on the latest threat.
