The White House on Monday pledged its support for the family of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie as authorities continue searching for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing since the weekend and is believed to have been forcibly taken from her Arizona home.
“The search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, is ongoing, and authorities are requesting assistance from the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact 911,” the White House wrote in a social media post that included a photo of the missing 84-year-old woman.
“Our prayers are with the Guthrie family as we hope for Nancy’s safe return home,” the post added.
A White House official confirmed to The Hill that senior West Wing staff have been in contact with Savannah Guthrie as the search continues, underscoring the national attention the case has drawn given Guthrie’s prominence as one of NBC News’ most recognizable anchors. It remains unclear whether President Trump has personally spoken with the journalist.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing around noon on Sunday after a friend contacted family members to say she had failed to appear for church that morning, an absence described as highly unusual. Authorities later determined that she may have been taken from her home in Pima County, Arizona.
During a Monday news conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the case is being investigated as a potential abduction and emphasized the urgency of locating the missing woman due to her health needs.
“She has some physical challenges, is in need of medication; medication that if she doesn‘t have in 24 hours, it could be fatal,” Nanos said, adding that Guthrie suffers from multiple physical ailments.
Police have not publicly identified a suspect or motive, but officials said evidence at the home suggests the disappearance may be criminal in nature. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Tuscon, Arizona, confirmed it is “aware” of reports of a possible ransom note in relation to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
Savannah Guthrie, who has anchored NBC’s Today for more than a decade and is among the network’s most prominent journalists, has been in Arizona since her mother’s disappearance. She has not appeared on air since the search began.
In a social media post Monday, Guthrie thanked community members and law enforcement for their support and prayers as efforts to locate her mother continue.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts to contact emergency services immediately.
