The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to visit the White House later this month to celebrate their second consecutive World Series championship, continuing the longstanding tradition of championship teams being honored by the president.
According to the New York Post, President Donald Trump will host the Dodgers on July 23, during an off day in the club’s schedule between a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies and another series with the New York Mets.
“President Trump is excited to welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers BACK to the White House to celebrate their World Series championship!” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement.
Months of Speculation Come to an End
The reported visit concludes months of uncertainty over whether the defending champions would make the trip to Washington.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated during the offseason that the team intended to follow baseball tradition by accepting a White House invitation. However, scheduling conflicts prevented a visit during the club’s April road series against the Washington Nationals.
The team’s July East Coast road trip ultimately provided an opportunity to fit the ceremony into its schedule.
Second White House Visit Under Trump
The Dodgers also visited the White House in April 2025 after winning the 2024 World Series.
During that ceremony, Trump congratulated the franchise on its championship run and singled out two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, praising both his accomplishments on the field and his appearance, joking that the Japanese slugger looked like a “movie star.”
Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw defended the tradition of championship visits to the White House, arguing that the experience is larger than politics.
“Getting to go to the White House, getting to see the Oval Office, getting to meet the president of the United States, that’s stuff that you can’t lose sight of, no matter what you believe,” Kershaw said following last year’s visit.
Championship Teams Continue White House Tradition
Newsmax previously reported that the NBA champion New York Knicks also plan to visit the White House after accepting Trump’s invitation following their first NBA title in more than 50 years. Team owner James Dolan reportedly played a key role in organizing that visit.
White House celebrations for championship teams have occasionally become politically divisive in recent years, with some organizations declining invitations.
Others—including the Dodgers—have maintained that the visits are intended to recognize athletic achievement and celebrate championship seasons regardless of which president occupies the Oval Office.
