President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to appoint Gary Shapley, a whistleblower in an investigation into former first son Hunter Biden, to be the acting commissioner of the IRS.
Shapley recently returned to his role as deputy chief of IRS criminal investigation, and Trump is going to tap him to lead the agency, according to CNN.
Just The News reports:
“Gary has proven his honesty and devotion to enforcing the law without fear or favor, even at great cost to his own career,” a Treasury spokesperson told the news outlet. “He’ll be a great asset to the IRS as we rethink and reform this crucial organization.”
Last month, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised Shapley and Ziegler.
“These two gentlemen were dedicated civil servants trying to do their jobs, and they were blocked from doing that,” he told Fox News. “We’re going to make sure that never happens again.”
Shapley and Special Agent Joseph Ziegler investigated the former first son’s alleged financial crimes before being removged from the investigation.
