President Donald Trump unveiled updated renderings of a limited-edition U.S. passport celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, giving Americans a closer look at one of the administration’s newest commemorative projects ahead of next year’s historic milestone.
“The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, sharing the newly released images.
The commemorative passport features patriotic artwork honoring the nation’s founding while preserving the same security standards as the traditional U.S. passport.
One newly released rendering shows Trump seated at the Resolute Desk with the Declaration of Independence displayed in the background and his signature appearing at the bottom of the page. The facing page features John Trumbull’s iconic painting, “The Declaration of Independence,” depicting the presentation of the draft Declaration to the Continental Congress.
According to the State Department, the special edition passport will begin rolling out July 6 at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C., while supplies last. The commemorative design will serve as the default passport issued at that location, though applicants may still request the standard design. Passport offices elsewhere in the country will continue issuing the traditional version.
“These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. Passport the most secure documents in the world,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott told CNN when the commemorative passports were first announced in April.
The updated renderings differ slightly from earlier preview images released this spring. The newest version appears to feature a portrait of Trump based on artwork from the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery, replacing a different image shown in the initial mockups first published by Fox News.
The commemorative passport is part of the Trump administration’s broader Freedom 250 initiative marking the nation’s semiquincentennial.
In recent weeks, the White House has launched a series of America250 celebrations, including the “UFC Freedom 250” event hosted on the White House grounds and the opening of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall. Trump officially kicked off the 16-day celebration in Washington on June 24, highlighting the administration’s focus on honoring the nation’s history ahead of the July 4, 2026, anniversary.
The limited-edition passport gives travelers an opportunity to carry a commemorative piece of that celebration while continuing to use one of the world’s most secure travel documents.
