Trump Administration Officially Shuts Down USAID

In an effort to rein in decades of bloated spending and failed globalist programs, the Trump administration has officially shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), ending its control over foreign assistance as of July 1. The State Department will now take over any remaining aid programs that directly serve American interests, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Tuesday.

“USAID has little to show since the end of the Cold War,” Rubio said in a statement. “Development objectives have rarely been met, instability has often worsened, and anti-American sentiment has only grown.”

Instead of continuing to fund programs that cater to left-wing ideologies and global bureaucracies, Rubio said the Trump administration will now direct foreign assistance through the State Department, where it can be delivered with “accountability, strategy, and efficiency.”

“This era of government-sanctioned inefficiency has officially come to an end,” Rubio declared. “We will finally have a foreign funding mission in America that prioritizes our national interests.”

Created during the Cold War to help project American influence through development projects, USAID has in recent decades become a bloated arm of the globalist NGO complex. Under the guise of “development,” it funded countless initiatives aligned with progressive social agendas—at the expense of American taxpayers who never got a vote on these exorbitant spending ventures.

The elimination of USAID is the latest victory in President Trump’s second-term government reform effort. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—tasked with eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse—played a central role in the dismantling of USAID.

In March, Secretary Rubio announced that more than 80% of USAID’s programs would be terminated following a six-week review. That meant the elimination of roughly 5,200 of USAID’s 6,200 programs—a massive rollback of taxpayer-funded global activism.

Predictably, Hollywood elites and international activists are furious. Actress Charlize Theron, speaking at a glitzy charity event, blamed the shutdown for halting HIV programs in South Africa.

She then launched into a rant about immigration raids, LGBTQ rights, and “gender-based violence,” culminating in an explicit outburst: “F— them.”

The shift marks a critical realignment of U.S. foreign policy. Aid will now be strategic, limited, and directly tied to American interests—whether that means stabilizing partners to counter China or deterring illegal immigration from Central America.

Instead of bankrolling radical NGOs or promoting DEI in foreign countries, federal dollars will go where they matter most: protecting America’s sovereignty, values, and global position.

USAID had become a vehicle for unaccountable spending, pushing left-wing values abroad while American families face rising costs at home. With this decision, President Trump and Secretary Rubio have sent a clear message: America’s foreign aid will no longer serve foreign agendas.
