GOP Senators Caution Trump Against Major Government Cuts

Mourners at the United States Supreme Court following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

President Donald Trump announced he is scheduled to meet with Russ Vought, director of the Office of Management and Budget, to discuss which parts of the government he recommends cutting amid the Schumer Shutdown.

“I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent,” the president wrote on Truth Social Thursday morning.

“I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity,” he continued. “They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

However, a number of Senate Republicans have warned against President Trump’s proposal saying could squander their moral high ground.

Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate DOGE Caucus, slammed Vought in comment to Semafor: “Russ is less politically in tune than the president.”

He added:” “We, as Republicans, have never had so much moral high ground on a government funding bill in our lives. I just don’t see why we would squander it, which I think is the risk of being aggressive with executive power in this moment.”

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) slammed the freezing of New York projects as “totally unacceptable,” warning that blocking work on the Hudson Tunnel would have real consequences in the wake of recent storm damage.

Speaking to HuffPost, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) also cautioned that targeting blue states “can create a toxic environment here.”

“They need to be really careful with that,” he said.

He continued: “So hopefully they’re working with the leader, and the leader with them, on not creating more work to get us out of this.”

  1. Bunch of RINOs, elected with republican dollars, but much closer to the democrat agenda. In some states, the best we can do, but we can’t let them set the goals.

  2. The government is bloated, and the spending has to be reduced drastically if this nation is to survive. And so muchof the agenda of the left is just sick. Lawlessness, assignations, illegal immigration with perks, the trannie agenda, the massacre of the unborn, tax & spend without limits, lawfare, and so much more. This is a rare opportunity to but on the brakes.

  3. The GOP has become infamous for doing as little as possible. Trump has great instincts and those worth hiring back will be around if necessary. But then we can pick real MAGA folks to be hired. Get rid of dead weight first. Give Trump what he wants not what the GOP cowards want!
