President Donald Trump announced Monday that he will deliver a nationally televised address to the American people later this week, though he did not disclose what topics he plans to discuss.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the speech will take place Thursday evening.

“President Trump will be making a Speech to the Nation on Thursday evening, at 9 P.M. Eastern,” the president wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The White House has not released additional details about the address or its agenda.

Major Developments Surround the Announcement

Trump’s decision to schedule a prime-time speech comes amid a series of significant domestic and international developments that could potentially be addressed during his remarks.

On the foreign policy front, the administration has escalated military engagement in Iran following the collapse of a recently negotiated ceasefire.

Last week, Trump announced that the ceasefire had ended, although he said diplomatic talks would continue. Since then, the United States has carried out multiple rounds of military strikes against Iranian targets after Iran attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the administration.

On Monday, Trump also announced that the United States would reinstate a naval blockade targeting Iranian shipping.

In a Truth Social post, the president said the United States would act as the “GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” explaining that the blockade would prevent Iranian vessels and their customers from entering or leaving the strategic waterway.

Trump also said the United States would seek reimbursement for providing security in the region by imposing a 20% charge on cargo moving through the strait.

“The process and formation will begin immediately,” he wrote.

Graham’s Death Also Looms Over Washington

The president’s upcoming address also follows the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who died Saturday at the age of 71 following what his office described as a brief and sudden illness.

Medical officials later said Graham died from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Following the senator’s death, Trump endorsed Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, to serve as South Carolina’s interim senator.

“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina,” Trump wrote Monday. “This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”

Graham had been preparing to seek reelection in November before his unexpected death.

Topic Remains Unknown

Although the White House has not indicated what Trump intends to discuss Thursday night, prime-time presidential addresses are typically reserved for major national issues or significant policy announcements.

Given the timing, observers are expected to closely watch for remarks on the escalating war with Iran, the administration’s Middle East strategy, the South Carolina Senate vacancy, or other major domestic and international developments.
