President Donald Trump is throwing his support behind the Republican seeking to take over Wyoming’s only U.S. House seat, endorsing Secretary of State Chuck Gray ahead of the November election.
Trump announced his backing Monday on Truth Social, praising Gray’s work in statewide office and pointing to his own three presidential victories in Wyoming.
“Chuck Gray has been a tremendous Secretary of State for the Great State of Wyoming, a place I love and WON BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024!” Trump wrote, according to Fox News.
“Chuck Gray has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next U.S. Representative from Wyoming — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” he added.
In the full announcement, Trump highlighted the agenda he expects Gray to pursue in Congress: lower taxes and fewer regulations, support for farmers and ranchers, expanded American energy production, border security, and protections for gun rights. He also identified election integrity and support for the military and veterans as priorities.
Gray welcomed the endorsement in a post on X, thanking Trump and pledging to carry his record into Congress.
“As President Trump said, I have a real track record of advancing the key priorities of the people of Wyoming, and I will continue that track record in Congress. Together, we will defend our Wyoming way of life!” Gray wrote.
Trump Backs Gray After A Crowded Primary
The endorsement comes after Gray won the Republican nomination in August, emerging from a nine-candidate field. Cowboy State Daily reported that unofficial returns showed Gray with 25.4% of the vote, ahead of philanthropist Steve Friess at 20.4%.
Trump stayed out of that House primary, the outlet reported. His support now renews a political relationship that predates Gray’s congressional campaign: Trump endorsed him for secretary of state in 2022.
Before winning statewide office, Gray served three terms in the Wyoming House. Wyoming Public Media reported that he was a founding member of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus and launched his current congressional bid in December 2025.
An Open Seat In Trump Territory
Gray is seeking the seat held by Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman, who is running for the Senate as Sen. Cynthia Lummis declines to seek a second term.
The November contest will take place on favorable Republican terrain. Club for Growth, which has also endorsed Gray, notes that Trump won 71.6% of Wyoming’s vote in 2024 and rates the House seat safe Republican.
Cowboy State Daily reported that Gray’s general-election opponents include Democrat Lisa Kinney, Libertarian Shawn Johnson and Constitution Party nominee Jeff Haggit. Election Day is November 3.
With Trump’s endorsement secured, Gray heads into the final month of the campaign with the president’s backing for his promised move from statewide office to Capitol Hill.
